Give 'em an inch, they go a mile!

Warning: HILARIOUS! but borderline revelation!

( Business at City Hall in San Francisco )

"Next."

"Good morning. We want to apply for a marriage license."

"Names?"

"Tim and Jim Jones."

"Jones? Are you related? I see a resemblance."

"Yes, we're brothers."

"Brothers? You can't get married."

"Why not? Aren't you giving marriage licenses to same gender couples?"

"Yes, thousands. But we haven't had any siblings. Wouldn't that be incest ?"

"Incest?" No, we are not gay."

"Not gay? Then why do you want to get married?"

"For the financial benefits, of course. And we do love each other.Besides, we don't have any other prospects."

"But we're issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples who've been denied equal protection under the law. If you are not gay, you can get married to a woman."

"Wait a minute. A gay man has the same right to marry a woman as I have. But just because I'm straight doesn't mean I want to marry a woman. I want to marry my brother Jim."

"And I want to marry Tim, Are you going to discriminate against us just because we are not gay?"

"All right, all right. I'll give you your license. Next."

"Hi. We are here to get married."

"Names?"

"John Smith, Jane James, Robert Green, and June Johnson."

"Who wants to marry whom?"

"We all want to marry each other."

"But there are four of you!"

"That's right. You see, we're all bisexual. I love Jane and Robert, Jane loves me and June, June loves Robert and Jane, and Robert loves June and me. All of us getting married together is the only way that we can express our sexual preferences in a marital relationship."

"But we've only been granting licenses to gay and lesbian couples."

"So you're discriminating against bisexuals ?"

"No, it's just that, well, the traditional idea of marriage is that it's just for couples."

"Since when are you standing on tradition ?"

"Well, I mean, you have to draw the line somewhere."

"Who says? There's no logical reason to limit marriage to couples. The more the better. Besides, we demand our rights! The mayor says the constitution guarantees equal protection under the law. Give us a marriage license!"

"All right, all right. Next."

"Hello, I'd like a marriage license."

"In what names?"

"David Deets."

"And the other man?"

"That's all. I want to marry myself."

"Marry yourself? What do you mean?"

"Well, my psychiatrist says I have a dual personality, so I want to marry the two together, and maybe I can file a joint income-tax return."

"Oh, all right. Next!"

"Hello, I'd like a marriage license."

"Who are you going to marry?"

"My pet sheep."

"What?! You can't marry your pet sheep. Marriage is between people."

"I disagree. No law states that I have to marry a person. I love Kinky-Winky, and he loves me. And if the constitution can guarantee everyone else the right to marry whomever they want to, I have the right to marry whatever I want to, for whatever reason I want to."

"That does it! I quit!! You people are making a mockery of marriage!!"

Happy 4th of July, Mom

My mom sat home reading a book for the 4th (she has loaned it to me and it is a good book) so she didn't see the fireworks. Here are some Justin caught, just for you!

Summer Sports

I broke down this summer and signed up my boys for some summer sports. It is hot outside and a bad time to sit and enjoy watching and playing but I don't think I could be a nice mommy if I had to deal with sports and school each week. Sam has loved soccer for years. I signed him up at the Y. He is loving it. It is great for him to learn the basics. His team of 6 year olds get to play the team of 4 year olds. It is a real ego boost every week.

Nellie is holding her own with the brothers home for the summer.

Keaton was lucky to do two sports. Being new to the ward and stake I didn't know about Primary Softball. I signed him up for soccer too but only 3 kids his age signed up. They didn't tell me until 2 weeks into the season. (not impressed with management there) The manager incharge mentioned basketball. Not my favorite sport, but we can try it. He is doing great!

Primary Softball is for 2 weeks in the summer at 6 am. Keaton learned on the first day of practice that everyone gets hit with the ball, it is going to hurt, and you will be ok. After that he learned better ways to catch the ball. He is a pretty good slugger. I think if he stops being scared of the ball he will be really good at this sport.

Great job guys!!!

What have you been up to this summer?

The summer is half over. At the end of the summer I always wonder where the time goes . This summer I know where June went. My mom is remodeling her home. Some things have needed to be done for years (new toilet, new kitchen, paint, flooring.........) . When she asked me to help her out I was more than happy to get the things done. One room had the carpet that was original to the house in '47. If I find the pictures of the old house I will post them. Last summer (and fall and winter) my sister and her family, along with my uncle worked on the back of the house that my mom is now living in. They worked constantly! I now realize and appreciate all the hard work they put into it. I think that many would love to rent this classy place. Love ya Mom. Glad we are done!

Coming back home

Every trip to San Diego we pass the sand dunes and talk about how Star Wars was filmed there. This time, without a caravan, we were able to stop. I am glad that we did so we never have to again. It was hot and sandy. Almost made me wish I was back home (almost).

Playin at the Park

We tried to find the advertised city fair. It consisted of two booths and a church rummage sale. So we ended up at a park around the corner. Another beautiful day.

Sun and Fun

Elijah, Sam, Rachel, Sydney, Hattie, Nellie, Granny, Keaton, Justin

The day was beautiful! After the cloudy day the day before we thought it would be a good kite day instead of swim day at the beach. Wrong. The sun shone all day. The breeze was nice and cool. I can see how someone can be in the sun all day and not know they could get burnt. (you know the Arizona sun just bakes) Nellie loved the water. She was not afraid at all. I told her to go wash the sand off. She ran to the water and jumped in shaking all around. The boys found a friend to dig with. They could spend all day there every day. (Yes Alison I am totally jealous of your location) It was a perfect day.

San Diego Zoo

Why would anyone go to the zoo when they live in one!
We had a beautiful drizzly day. We got to take a bus tour and the skyride. We stopped at one of the shows they had really fun animals that they were trying to train. One had 4 Macaw's. They flew right over us. Another was the California Condor. We were in just the right spot for the fly by. The kids really enjoyed the all the animals. Because of the drizzly weather not many people were there so now lines or crowds to climb over and to see the animals. Thanks Granny for a great day!

San Diego 2008

Pappy and Granny Harris have a time share in a little town called Ramona, California. Ever since Keaton was an infant we have been lucky enough to be invited along for fun each year. We have gone at all different times of the year. Each time has been wonderful. Ramona is about 45 minutes from the beaches of San Diego. We have had great times visiting places nearby and mostly getting to be together as a family without distractions. This year we were missing some of the Harris' clan. It made us sad to miss out on time with them but knew that we still love them and they love us.

You Are Ariel!

Headstrong and fiesty. You have a mind of your own that's full of romantic dreams about the world around you. Exploring exotic places is your ultimate dream, and although you can be a little naive you'll realize that there is something to be gained from your family's wisdom.

Mem-oreo Day Weekend

Last week Keaton found the model rockets Dathan gave us about 3 years ago. He decided it was time to make them. We called up Dathan and he said the wind would be perfect on Monday. We invited our friend Dallin to come help and watch. (This is them playing baseball next door that afternoon)

Keaton got to fly two of the rockets that he had made. Dathan has a whole container full of rockets the boys could have the pick of the litter. Yes that is a baseball bat rocket that Nellie is holding. Dathan also had a port-o-potty rocket, one with glitter when it started to come down, one that got stuck on a roof, yellow ones, blue ones, you get the picture. (Nellie, Dallin, Keaton, Sam, Natalie, Dathan, Hattie, Justin was there for all the little ones but missed this big one)
This was Dathan's big rocket. He had to hook it up to his car battery to be able to use the ignition switch. This was the last rocket. A cop showed up shortly after this rocket was launched. Good thing we were already packing up. Just a friendly reminder of the rules in city parks.

Do you like the color purple?

This phrase has been Keaton's opener. On Friday (the first official day of summer) Keaton invited the Woolf's to come play. While the were playing a chasing game (you better stop or someone is going to end up hurt or in trouble) Keaton shut the outside door on his toe. Without opening the door he pulled his toe out. He lay screaming on the carport floor. It is getting better now but for a day and a half we thought it might be broken. Sam was very worried and will carry this memory with him forever. Be grateful the band aid is on in the pictures, it got ugly.
